This is our second STEM project at San Marin. It is a video of all the physics. My group included Jason, the pitcher and editor, Amritha, the filmer, Emilie, the host, and me, the catcher. Our film was the physics behind the fastball.
At first we started out by making a list of all the clips we were going to need, then we put it into a storyboard . We did that by dividing paper into small squares, and on these squares we said what was going to happen in the clips. After we made the storyboard out to what we wanted to what we wanted it to look like, then we made a script of all the words in the story that we were going to say.
When that was all set up we went to the softball field and started to record the shots we said we were going to shoot in the storyboard. After we got our shots we went to record our voice overs. When the voice overs are recorded and we have our shots taken then we are ready to get the videos onto the movie maker and set them in order. When we got them in order we set our voices to the clips and now all we had to do was add music. The music we added was "Centerfield" by John Fogerty.
CONCEPTS
Horizontal Velocity: Horizontal velocity is somethings velocity in an side to side motion. To find HV you by dividing distance over time. We used HV for the balls flight path.
Vertical Velocity: Vertical Velocity is somethings velocity in a up and down motion. To find VV you multiply acceleration times time. We used VV for the balls flight path.
Impulse: Impulse is how much force is put on an object. You can find impulse by taking force and multiplying it by time. We used impulse to help find momentum and force, and the force on the mitt.
Momentum: Momentum is equal to impulse. Momentum is ether mv, which is mass times velocity, or Ft, which is force times time. We used momentum to help find the impulse and force.
Velocity: Velocity is change in a bodies position in a certain direction. You can find velocity by speed with direction.
Acceleration: Acceleration is the change in velocity with respect to time. You can find acceleration by dividing force over mass.
Torque: Torque is force in a circular motion. You can find toque by multiplying force times distance. We used toque for the body's rotation.
Mechanical Advantage: Mechanical Advantage is how easy a machine makes work. You can find MA if you divide input distance over output distance. We used MA for the relationship between the pitchers belly button and shoulder like a wheel and axle.
Our group had lots of peaks and pits. One major peak was when we finished all of our shots that we wanted. That was exciting because the shots looked like we pictured them. Another peak we had was that we were able to get the voice overs to mach up with the shots so the film made sense. The last peak was when we added music. That was cool because we had many parts in the film that were kind of boring, but the music made it more lively.
We also had pits though. One of our biggest pit was when we couldn't stay calm when it was close to the deadline, or when we couldn't figure out how to do something while editing. Another was when I couldn't catch the ball when Jason pitched it. It took forever. I wasn't wearing the right glove. I mean the glove was for righties but I'm not righty I'm lefty. So to say again it was not on the correct hand.
My group work well together. We got all the shots we wanted and had all the skill sets to let us be able to make the film possible. While we were editing though my group shut me out a little. I wasn't included in the discussions. I also could improve on letting my ideas be heard. Which is weird because in the last group I wouldn't stop talking. Well one thing I learned from this project is to always be confident in what you think.
