5th grade curriculum
Overview
My group was Jason, Joe, Jack, and myself. Our project goal was to create a 5th grade 10 week curriculum. We first gave the class a survey about their general interest not just solely science. We looked at the surveys and noticed that the kids were really interested in history and reading. Based on these results we decided to make a book about the history of science.
Project
We made our book ten chapters long, because we wanted to have the kids read one chapter a week. We also included a basic quiz half way through, and then a cumulative test. The chapters included History of Elements, Matter and Elements, Atoms in Chemical Reactions, Pure Elements and Combinational Elements, Chemical and Physical Properties, Properties of Matter, Organisms with Elements, Properties of Salts, How to Read a Periodic Table, and Periodic Table History.

Survey
This was the survey that we used to figure out what the 5th graders interests are. From this we designed our project into a historical book about science.

This is where we put it all together. We wrote out each chapter and half way through we made a pop quiz to see if the kids are paying attention ( the answers are attached). Then at the end we made a final quiz with 20 questions, and the answers are also attached.
Reflection
This project was a little different from what we normally do. At first we weren't really sure what to do, but we quickly figured it out. I really like our project and how we incorporated their interests into a book about science. A few things I liked about this project was how we got to make a curriculum for another class. My brother is in 5th grade at Lu Sutton so I asked him to read the chapters and take the quizzes to see if it was actually at a 5th grade level. He comprehended the chapters and did well on the quizzes. The only thing left to do was finalize it. A few things I found I didn't like or found hard about this project was that we had to make a book. None of our group members is very good at writing, which made it more difficult to write a children's book for science and keep their attention. That's where the survey idea came into play. After finding out the interests of the kids, the writing of the book became a lot easier. Overall, the project was really fun a good learning experience.
